per_volquartz1
The Oregon Coast Workshop (from May 2 to May 9) is shaping up. While this workshop is primarily for large format photographers it may be a great experience for 35mm users as well. During our large format workshops I encourage the use of Leica M cameras, side by side with 4x5, 8x10 and larger cameras. Even if you do not shoot large format but are totally involved in 35mm black and white photography you may find that our workshops (and participants) offer a wealth of knowledge about photography. The primary "focus" of this Free Workshop will be Form and Content, using "Light as Pigment". We will spend a lot of time discussing - and demonstrating how to capture that "elusive image" that may exist in your brain when you confront a scene. Besides spending a day at the Durst-Pro-USA facility in Portland Oregon (trying out professional large and VERY large) enlargers, I just received an offer from Cooke Optics of Leicester, England to use a demo lens during that workshop. The lens is the very expensive, hand assembled Cooke PS945 229mm "soft focus" lens. While this lens is called a soft focus lens it really is not. Instead, it has a unique look of handmade lenses made about 100 years ago (You have never seen skin tones - or bokeh - until you see the results from this lens!). The lens retails for $2995.00 and to date there are only about 50 of them in the USA. During the May Workshop everyone will have the opportunity to try the lens (it comes on a Linhof Technica board). I am trying to make similar arrangements with other manufacturers...we'll see what materializes.
