s._misra
Hi. Has anyone tested out how well the autofocus works on the Canon 10D with the 500/4 IS + 2x Canon converter? (This question assumes that one has "taped" the pins on the 2X so that the camera will attempt to focus past the normal f5.6 limit; a well known trick if you are unfamiliar)
mike_morgan1
In general, 10D autofocus performs differently from camera to camera. So even if somebody had this combo and it didn't work out well for them, it might work out well for you.
nico_smit
The 500/4 IS will not AF with a 2x TC on a 10D. The 10D will only AF with lenses of f5.6 and larger. The 500 /f4 + 2x = f8. This combination will only AF on a 1D/1Ds or the film bodies 3/1V.
nico_smit
My apologies - I see you know that it will not AF, unless the extra contacts is taped. I did not try it, but other combinations that I tried did not work well. The camera/lens tends to hunt a lot.
bob stewart jacksonville
I find that autofocus with a 10D, 600 f/4 and a 1.4 to be on the edge of acceptable, particularly for bird photos. I haven't tried taping the contact on the 2x because based on the experience with the 1.4, I can't imagine it would be sufficiently fast to be worthwhile.
