radim sulc www.sulc.com
Hi,can you help me what is the best lens for shooting Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur from the ground level. I want to use 6x7 or 6x9 rollfilm formats and rigid or view camera. Do you have a tip from which place to work ? Thank you very much for any contributions. k_smith1
It's very difficult. The only place I found was a car park that a taxi driver knew (http://www.alamy.com/search-results.asp?qt=petronius&go=1&a=-1&lic=1&lic=6). If you don't get any really good ideas - hire a taxi and ask!
nikos
Depends on what kind of shot you're looking for. I personally found that any spot near the towers requires a very wide lens to let you include both buildings at full height in the frame, and the result is not very impressive. I think an image with real impact would be one taken from some building or hillptop far away, wide, overlooking KL and showing how the Petronas really scale in comparison to other tall buildings in the city. There is an interesting effect during the night, where the lights of the towers create a halo around them by diffusing in the ambient humidity. It is certainly possible to capture this on film. You might want to go for it.
peza
16mm lens on 35mm lens is fine (so so doable with 24mm) , so is Schneider 47mm XL on 4x5".
erb_duchenne
I was given grief by the KLCC park groundsmen when trying to shoot with a tripod. If using tripod, you might want to do it from outside the KLCC grounds.
sivakumar m. maniam
Yep, as been said, definately a wide angle, anything below 20mm (35mms). I guess the for me, i liked the view of the building from the water fountain, especially just after sunset. Have fun.
cs chua
The car park mentioned is 5 minutes walk from KLCC park. It's next to ExxonMobil building. Park is close at 10pm until morning. Guards don't allow any visitors in the park after closing. I am guessing you were in the park too early in the day. I have taken a full view of the building with 18mm (equivalent 29mm) lens. The car park is good if you want yourself in the picture. If not there is another more interesting angle. The distance is not too near to distort the image to an extend you can't correct the perspective for a decent photo.<div></div>
