chrissy_hespen
I am in need of a desperate cleaning of my Rollei, however, the person that owned it before me skimmed the top of the (very very very tiny) screws on the viewfinder, and nobody can get them off! I am able to take pictures fine and accurately, however, I would like to see my entire ground glass, not just the center. I've attempted to take it to a professional, however he sent it back because he couldn't get the screws off. Any suggestions, or is this a hopeless case? wayne_crider4
In the past if I needed to get something off, or out, and didn't have enough to grab I would adhere a larger peice of metal with an adhesive, let it set and turn it out. I don't know of there's screw extractors in the size you need. More than likely a local machinist can perform the job for you.
jay_.
Chrissy, any really good camera repairman should be able to take a thin slitting disk in a rotary tool like Dreml and cut a screwdriver slot in the heads. Call Harry Fleenor or Ross Yerkes or Ken Ruth and any of them should be able to handle it. A good dental lab (one that does crown and bridge/porcelain work) should be able to re-slot the screws too, and probably a jewelry repairman could as well. John Seaman
Chrissy If you are expecting a dramatic improvement after cleaning the mirror and viewing screen, you may be disappointed. The dim edges of the screen are probably due to it's being one of the older type with plain ground glass. You need the fresnel type screen to give brightness to the edge, these can be retro fitted (Maxwell, Beattie etc.) This may be wrong and you may find it is really dirty inside, when you eventually get into it, when cleaning will make a big difference. Good luck.
