Battery and flash

I was using a Canon 550 as a fill in flash for bird photography but

the flash took 4-7 seconds to recharge.

There are big batteries on the market like the one Im using at work

which is 6V ( like 4 x 1.5V). It is a 6Volt Varta CEI 4 R 25/2

13x10x7cm big battery (there are allot of other similar batteries and

even Lition batteries, which are rechargeable).

Is it dangerous to use this kind of batteries for a flash like Canon

550 ore even for an Eos 3 body when the voltage is OK. It must be

possible to record the battery by wires with the flash.

Could it damage the flash or Eos 3 body

All these solutions seems cheaper than the quantum batteries or the

Canon solutions.

Edward, Any 6V cell should be fine. A big one will last a long time. However, I happen to think that a great solution is Canon's CP-E2 (I think that's right -- the one that holds eight AA's). I place 4 1600NiMH batteries in the flash itself and 8 in the CP-E2 and I get a very portable setup with fast (<1sec) flash recharges and I can recharge the batteries easily even in most third world countries.
