massimo_benenti
Hi, does anyone know if the Nikon SU-4 works with two Metz flashes just like they were Nikon Speedlites? I own a Metz 40 MZ3i and I need one other light source for my "bird photography" . It would be useful a wireless control but even the Italian dealer of Metz and Nikon could not help me . Before buying one other Metz I would be grateful if someone overseas could give me an answer. Usually you are great "conoisseurs" on so many subjects !!! Sorry for my English, Thanks All the best, MASSIMO
stnoonan
Hi Massimo,
I don't think the Metz's will work. I copied the info below from Nikon's web site -- it may be pro-Nikon propaganda, or it might be a warning not to try other's strobes. I suspect it would still fire the strobe, but you may not get the TTL capabilities. Buyer beware I guess:
True wireless TTL control with most Nikon speedlights
Up to 23 feet in TTL AUTO mode
Ideal for use with Nikon speedlights in multiple flash lighting setups to reduce background shadows, provide a second light for fill or main light purposes, and for background or accent lights
Small and compact, fits on most tripods and light stands
Unique audible beep alerts for correct or incorrect exposure
Rotates 120°
Sean
www.stnphotography.com
rolland_elliott
I don't think it will. However the Ikelite Wireless Nikon Slave sensor probably will. I base this on the fact that the SU4 wouldn't work with a Quantum X2 Flash, but a Ikelite sensor would. The Ikelite has a farther range too! Buy one used for $60 to $80 US dollars and if it doesn't work, just sell it again, that way you dont' loose $$$. Peace, Rolland
