Jack's Camera in Muncie is a long-time outfit with a good reputation. If they say it was confirmed by Leica to be an original BP they're probably telling the truth but there would not be any harm in asking them if they'd provide a written statement to that effect by Leica NJ. It doesn't necessarily have to be a stolen camera just because some idiot obliterated the serial#. I believe that Leicas (at least back then) had serial#'s engraved internally as well. Perhaps it is not the original top-plate. Who knows. Bottom-line, it's a butt-ugly camera, but guaranteed to make you think you're a grea photographer and that you're fooling everyone else into thinking so too, so if that's your party, bid on it.

I think the seial number is located under the film loading diagram.

Corret, all classic Ms have the serial # tatooed under the film loading diagram. Stay away from it if there's no serial #.
