walter_strong3
I'm looking at "The Photo Shop Book for Digital Photographers" by Scott Kelby ($23.990, and "Complete Digital Photography" by ben Long ($39.95). If anybody has read either of these books, I'd appreciate some feedback.
jerry_freeman1
It's "The Photoshop Book for Digital Photographers" and it covers Photoshop in his Down and Dirty style. Rather than being a photography book it's a Photoshop book. It's ok :) Martin Evening's is far superior. Haven't heard of the other...jf
marshall
Sorry, can't comment on those. But I can recommend "Real World Photoshop" by Blatner & Fraser, as if you need more options to consider. Perhaps you could say more about what you hope to get out of the book and people might be able to comment on how each book has covered your topics? david-nicolas
To use Photoshop with photographs, the best book I have found is Micheal Kieran's "Photoshop color correction" (Peachpit Press). It tells you very clearly and with a lot of details of the basic techniques to improve the colors of a photograph (and why colors work that way). Spearhead
I have learned a lot from Kelby's book. I have found Evening's book to be severely lacking. A simple example. I have often found the "marching ants" to be a real problem when working on a selection, especially if it's an effort to match tones/levels to the area bounding the selection. Kelby tells you how to get rid of the marching ants. Evening, perhaps because his book is really for pre-press photography preparation, either assumes that you know this or doesn't think it's important. Kelby demonstrates specific useful techniques. Another book that does this is the one by Katrin Eisman, Photoshop Restoration and Retouching. Music and Portraits Blog: Life in Portugal
