bob_rutkowski
I will be soon buying my first studio flash. I think I have it down to the Photogenic Studiomax II 320 w/s model or the Alien Bees B800 (320 w/s). Does anyone have experience with this and any recommendations. An internet search so far reveals that the two are comparably priced with similar features. So how do they compare from an operational point of view. wayne_seanard
I just purchased White Lightnings made by the same people that make the BEEs. I've heard nothing but good about the BEEs and since they come from the same people that make WLs they have to be good. I know nothing about the other lights but I know you will be happy with the BEEs. And if you can go another hundred bucks a light get White Lightnings and you'll be in heaven. chris_ladoulis
One big advantage to the Bees is the extensive list of accessories available, since you can use most White Lightning accessories with them, too. I use Bees in the studio and on location, since they're so light and portable. My favorite accessory is the wired remote, allowing you to control the power level of up to four monolights. Well worth the $99.00.
kevin_kolosky
I have been using Photogenic equipment for the past 30 years (studiomaster, powerlights, photomaster, etc.) Great stuff. I don't think you could go wrong either way.
