rick_strome
I have heard of horror stories about a jam where everything locks up. I do not know exactly what this is (I heard that when you change lenses the leaf shutter might pop open and you cannot shoot or change lenses - IS THIS WHAT IT IS?). Does anyone know what causes this and how to perform an unjam? I heard you can buy an unjam tool - what does it do? Can you make a tool yourself? Thanks for your response - I want to be prepared when it happens. Rick
daniel_li
Hi Rick, <p> I had the experience of Hass jam and the lens was locked up. It was caused by trying to take out the lens without winding the camera. I brought the Hass to my friend who had over 10 years experience working in the agency of Hass as technican. He was also the only technican sent to Japan to attend the course of Nikon F4 repairing. My friend asked me to push open the rear curtain of the camera body. He simply used a screw driver a turn the knock in the rear of the lens. The knock looks like a screw with slotted head. By holding the knock, he told me to press the lens release button and take out the lens. The lens was taken out successfully.I couldn't see how he turned the knock inside the camera. But he told me the jam was caused by the connection between the knock in the rear of the lens and the one in the camera. I think it is not so difficult to unjam the camera and there is no need to buy any tool, just a screw driver is okay. Try carefully next time, don't scratch the glass of the lens. james_d._steele
The tools is cheap insurance against having a scratched rear lens element. It has a sleeve around the tip that minimizes the possibility of slipping out of the slot.
dominique_cesari
I wrote a page about hasselblad jamming at : http://www.mygale.org/%7ecesarigd/photoe2.htm IMHO the unjam tool is worth buying, even at $30, as a screwdriver may be harmful when carried - not when operated. I never saw such a tool, since they are not sold in France. Dominique
