nikon fm2 cleaning

It's difficult, and they expose themselves to a little liability. Your camera works now (I presume). It's not uncommon for a camera to fail after it has been opened up. Many repair places aren't at all interested in a request to 'just fix this one thing' under the top cover, because they have had experiences with folks demanding full re-dress after the camera fails 90 days later.

Your FM2 is a fine camera, and it's probably worth $145 to make it right if it's in tough shape. What made you want to clean it? You aren't by any chance just miffed by dust in the focus screen, are you? If that were the case, I can see where $145 seems over the top (I would ignore dust, or if the screen is really marred simply replace that).

You can see where less-expensive cameras like an FG easily get 'beyond economical repair'. They're only $100 on ebay, so spending more than that on a repair doesn't make sense.
