stan_murawski__jr.
We are going to be in the San Diego area in January. Has anyone had any experiences visiting Anza Borrego Desert Park, CA area at that time? Would appreciate any info on foliage, wildlife, etc. Thanks
frank_kolwicz
I prefer January in Anza-Borrego, but not for plants or wildlife. Winter storms can make for great skies in your landscapes, though. For winter birds, try the Imperial Wildlife Refuges a little further east on the Salton Sea. david_henderson
If you do go to Anza Borrego, don't miss the view over the badlands from Fonts Point, a few miles east of the "town". You have to approach it up a sand wash, so 4x4 is a good idea though I have seen ordinary cars up there. It'll be marked on any good map.
jim_everett
Your first stop should be at the Anza Borrego Desert State Park visitor center in Borrego Springs. It has books, maps, and just about any other park information you could want. The staff there can provide free and accurate information on wildlife sightings, foliage bloom status, road conditions, etc.
