eva_harun
Hi All, I wonder whether choosing the manual focus mode can improve your scanning using the Canoscan FS4000US ? And most importantly : how do you do manual focus scanning ? Considering that scanning time with this scanner is very looooong, is it worth it ? Awaiting your recommendation and suggestion. Thank you, Eva.
roto
First of all, I never had to manual focus the scanner: I find that the AF works very well. However... as I understand it, it's an iterative process: you set the focus, do a preview (or even a scan), if not satisfied you change the focus setting and go back to the previous step. Must be a nightmare.

jean_claude_berger
Hello Eva, It's very easy. Go in the FilmGet menu, chose Focus and deselect Autofocus. Then, move the slider right or left to change focus. From what I understand the dialog tells you which value autofocus has choosen (provided you did a preview first). Try adding or substracting 5 points at a time. Select a little part (obviously the part you want to have the optimum focus) of you picture and scan. Choose the sharpest test as a reference. Most time, the autofocus gives the best result. But I always check because for some pictures, maybe 10 percent, it is not the case.
