kenghor
The vertical alignment of my M6 TLL is slightly out. Just out by some hairlines. In general, the misalignment is acceptable for proper focusing. However the misalignment bothers me a little and I just want it to be perfect. Some of the shops here offer the correction service for about $50. Since this is not done by Leica and I'm a little concerned. I'm afraid they may spoil my camera in the process. Is this a simple process that I can entrust it to non-authorised Leica agent to do the job?
bert_keuken2
Adjusting the vertical alignment requires the red dot te be removed, underneath it is the access hole for vertical alignment. Adjusting the vertical alignment on a M6 also requires a special tool, John Collier has one and can tell you its part number. Older Leica M camera's can be adjusted with a (small) screwdriver, remove the slotted screw on the front of the camera to gain access. If the shops offering the adjustment have the right tool for it I'd say go for it. IMO $50 for such a small and simple job is expensive.
al_kaplan1
Last time one of my M2 bodies needed this done my repair guy did it right there at his counter while we spent a few minutes discussing local politics. I offered to pay. "For what? No charge."
john_collier2
http://nemeng.com/leica/034b.shtml If the shops have the special tool, it is a quick job. If they do not have the tool then the top plate has to come off to get at the adjustment. Neither way is better.
nick_bryans3
I took my M6 along to Leica UK, which are fairly local to me, and they adjusted it on the spot. It took maybe 10 minutes, and they didn't charge me anything. Of course this doesn't mean you will manage this, but it does show how simple a job it is - for someone who knows how it's done.
