bill_proud
The bald Eaglet has flown the nest at approximately 10 weeks from hatching. I first saw him around tax time, April 15th and saw him last on June 30th. He was big and strong and it was great fun to watch and photograph and I never felt, at any time, that I was too close to the birds. The info I had read indicated first flight was in the 10-13 week range so he was right on time. I have attached an image at 1400 mm focal length, so don't ding me for the loss of quality.<div></div>
alan_woolnough
Thanks for sharing this Bill, you must have had an interesting few weeks. The image will be a fine reminder, as the years pass, so hold onto it. Im glad i did not bin an image of a White Tailed Sea eagle that i took some twenty years ago {and this is only about 1/4 of an inch on a 10x8}, and although they dont nest in the UK they are extremely rare here, and im glad i held onto it. Hopefully your eaglet will survive, now its left the nest. Do the parents continue to feed it?, or do they have to make their own way in life, once they have left the nest. all the best
gloria_hopkins
Thanks for taking the time to update us! There's nothing sweeter than a baby bird...
bill_proud
Alan, That is a question I was hoping to learn more about but all three are just, "gone." I drove around the area with binoculars but didn't find them anywhere. Gloria, thanks for your response. I didn't have as much time as I wished to photograph, I was dying for a 600mm IS but resisted the temptation. Maybe next year.
ye
Bill, Great picture! Don't worry about quality - it is very hard to get a picture of an eaglet. And your's is very interesting. Take a look at <a img="http://www.photo.net/photo/1616242">mine</a>, and let me know how you like it. Regsrds, Yuri
bill_proud
Yuri, Very nice photo. The nest looks huge. Is this a Bald Eagle?
doug_tomchuk
Does anyone know how old this juvenile might be? He was on a tree in my next door neighbor's yard in central New Jersey (US).<div></div>
jorelcuomo
Sorry but that last photograph, is not a Bald Eagle. It is a hawk.To the New Jesery guy. Gorgous bird.
doug_tomchuk
Thanks Joel, Indeed, I have been since informed by others that I have a shot of a immature red-tail hawk. Oops.
