sven_sampson1
Hello: I'm about to spend the next two years sailing the South Pacific in my sail boat. I have been debating whether or not to bring my 4x5 gear and part of the issue has been how to process the b&w while I'm on the water. Those of you who sail probably know that space tends to be very limited on boats. I currently own a CPA-2 with the drums necessary to process 8x10 (3010), 12 sheets of 4x5 (2553) and a smaller drum to process 6 sheets of 4x5 (2523). I recently heard about the Unicolor motor and was hoping that I could use my Jobo 6 2500 series drums on it. Has anyone tried it? I do know about the Jobo Roller Base, but I would prefer to use something driven by a motor for ease of use and consistency of processing. Does anyone know the rotation speed of the Unicolor processor and how it compares to the Jobo motors? Many thanks for your responses. Sven
john_kasaian1
Sven, do you have stabilizers on your boat? The Unicolor base has to be level or the drum will take off on its own----hopefully not overboard! :(
sven_sampson1
John, I'll probably only process film when I'm well anchored, in protected achorages, with roll stablilizers deployed. Your point is well taken. :-)
robert_davis2
The 2553 will work. It must I just did it today. You'll want to replace the cog lid with non cog lid. Basically turning it into a 2551 . No need to get the magnet. The 2523 is too short.
bob_moulton7
The 2500 series drum you mention with the standard not the cog head works fine on the uniroller. The 3010 drum will work on the roller without any head alteration, but you'll need to put some large bands--I use a combination of rubber bands and velcro strips around the drum to keep it from creeping off the unit. The uniroller lacks water temp control. depending upon your port, that could monkeywrench your processing in b/w or color. Bob
