mackenzie_sanders
Hello- I have a few questions about 6x9 's (or 6x8). I'm curious if there are any with some auto functions (focusing or metering) and if it is possible to put the digital backs on later. I have been mainly looking at the gw690 and mamiya, but I know there are others. Also, I'll probably have to get one used and don't really know what to spend. (I just saw a gw690 for $650). I've been trying to research, but thought someone might have recommendations. Thanks.
shambrick007
All the Fuji 6x9s and 6x8 rangefinders are fixed back and manual everything.
russ_britt1
I would check prices on e-bay.
richardcook
It is highly doubtful that anyone will make a 6x9 digital back for ordinary use. Even with perfect yield, one would be able to have only one or perhaps two chips come out of one semiconductor wafer, making it prohibitively expensive. brian yarvin
While I agree that it's unlikely that there will be some way to make our old Fuji Rangefinder cameras digital, I also suspect that we will see digital equivalents in the future. Because there are substantial number of people who shoot huge volume in medium format, a digital camera can replace tens of thousands of dollars in film expenses and therefore have a market. Note that the current crop of medium and large format digital gear looks frightenly expensive to many Photo.net readers but is in such demand that many companies have waiting lists. Full frame 6x4.5 cds chips are already in production and big camera digital specs continue to skyrocket.
dick roadnight cotswolds
Brian: I thought that the "full frame" 645 digibacks (e.g. Fuji) were a long way short of full frame... perhaps this should be a topic for a separate thread.
brian yarvin
Dick: Backs like the PhaseOne H25 are almost full frame and produce amazing results. The backs with smaller sensors are now often seen on the used market at amazingly reasonable prices.
mackenzie_sanders
Thanks for all of your responses so far. I am also wondering if you recommend any other 6x9's over this one. And if anyone knows a price range. I have only seen a couple on ebay-one was for $700. Thanks again.
