angelo_iacovella1
Hello, I am going to purchase a 10D in a few days and was wondering if anyone has any feedback on these sites that are selling it for 1399.00 or so instead of the usual 1499.00. A lot of them specify that they are US warranty and they list all the stuff that is (supposed) to come with it instead of charging you extra for it, but I'm forced to wonder - why are some selling it for 13xx.xx and others not. I know it's not that big of a price difference, but it would help me put some more money towards the 17-40 and 70-200 L lenses that I want to get as well. I know I should support this site too by purchasing from the links to vendors here. I will at least get the lenses from Adorama and B&H. I just wanted to know if it is really worth chancing a bad experience for one or two hundred bucks and if anyone out there has really had nightmare experiences with one of these vendors selling it at a discount to others. Any input would be appreciated. Angelo
paul a. roid
I was facing the same thoughts and looked at lots of web pages, ebay etc. ebay would have been a lot of headache, sending bank confirmed checks or money orders, since some sellers don't accept credit cards - whatever. send the camera to a confirmed address with UPS etc. Do I actually trust these people?? Plus I'd have to wait a few days for my new toy. 2nd thought what happens in case something is not ok - I need to send the camera back etc. Since I got a B&H around the corner, I just went over there, got my cam instantly. Also check the shipping and handling fees of the "dirt cheap" internet offers. Mostlikely you'll find out that it will be around $50. Express shipping is pricier of course. So is it worth it to save $50?
george_mazzetti1
Bought my 10D from Best Buy for $1499 @ 0% financing for 18 months, and for an additional $95 I purchased a 3 year extended warranty. The camera came with the Canon USA warranty. Make sure the 10D you buy has the 1.0.1 firmware update. You can verify the firmware by going into the camera's Menu and scrolling to the bottom. I forgot to mention that there was no shipping charge. If you decide to purchase the 10D from B&H verify that it comes with the Canon USA warranty. gerry_szarek
1499 is the lowest "advertised" price. Call all your local retailers, they will sell it for 1400 if they bargin. Ditto the 17~40 you should be able to get for 700 not the list of 800. GS
angelo_iacovella1
Thanks, I like the idea of the extended warranty. I didn't think of that, and I would imagine that the Canon warranty is only one year. I might also check with my credit card providers to see if they offer free extension of the warranty when purchasing with their card. Also, I've never seen this camera at Best Buy. I live in PA about 25 miles north of Philly and the three stores close to me don't sell it. Angelo
john_c.2
Call Dell... They don't have it listed on www.dell.com but they had it (they might still have it) and it's at 10% off so you will get it for $1350 or so. Go to www.dell.com and get the number. Call them. I ordered mine from www.gateway.com when they had it for $1349 due to the 10% off as well.
kirk_h
I was at Circuit City yesterday and they are currently selling it for $1399
melissa_eiselein
<i>"I just wanted to know if it is really worth chancing a bad experience for one or two hundred bucks..."</i> <br>The quick answer is "no." Why risk $1,300 or $1,400 just to save $100? I've never had a bad experience at one of those other sites, but that's because I've never shopped there. I have heard about bait-and-switch problems from other photographers. <p>Stick with a well-known company like B&H. BTW...they offer free shipping on their 10D. (Be sure to click through the link on PN's main page so PN can get a little piece of the pie.) I have shopped at B&H plenty and I swear by them for both new and used equipment. Stick with a reliable, reputable, honest company--be safe rather than sorry.

yang_wang
Angelo: I bought my 10D from Profeel. I'm very happy with it. It was hassle free + free shipping. It is also the lowest price on the web with USA warranty ($1376). Do not buy it from Royal Camera, AM Photo World, Digital Liquidators, etc, which all sell 10D at about $1199! These guys are crooks. I ordered it from AM Photo World, and they called me, telling me that I had to pay $300 for the battery and the charger! But Profeel is one of the best rated sellers on the web, in the same class as 17th Street Photo and BH (roughly). I did get a call from them, but just for confirmation. There was no push what so ever for accessories. The product arrived a day before the scheduled arrival date. You do need to be home, otherwise the airporne express guy may just leave it at your front door. Good luck, Yang
PuppyDigs
I bought an EOS 10D from Gateway for $1350 plus free shipping. I was on a waiting list at Ritz for about 6 weeks and gave up. Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
J.W. Wall
Adorama gave me great service and fast shipping. If you choose a merchant that supports PhotoNet, please access them from PhotoNet's home page when you buy -- it supports PN without any cost to you! henryk_barnas
I got my 10D from www.canogacamera.com, US model and waranty for $1349.
michelle_peterson
I would recommend you buy your 10D from a local retailer that has a good reputation, that way if you have any problems you can go to them. My camera store exchanged mine when I had a focus issue. For a hundred bucks or so it's worth the piece of mind.
tom_w.1
I paid $1250 for my 10D, plus shipping and tax it comes to a total of $1315. I got it through the American Homeowner's Association membership discount shopping service. They pretty much sell their stuff at invoice price, but you have to pay both tax and shipping. I think AHA have a free 1 month membership, after that it's about $100/year. You can cancel at any time and get the remainder of your membership fee refunded. I think I'm gonna keep the membership cuz I want to buy a big screen TV soon and they sell it for dirt cheap (compared to Best Buy). The camera is shipped directly from Canon USA distribution center. It took about 3 weeks for me to receive the order. I love the camera so far.
jonathon
Might wanna check out www.pricegrabber.com since there's a crowd in there with the 10D for $1240. Now the difference is $260, things are a little more tempting.
yakim_peled1
As someone who lives far away from USA (Israel) and as reliability is important to me, I buy only from B&H or Adorama. Have nothing but compliments. Happy shooting , Yakim.
mbyrne
I've seen them advertised as low as $1019. i almost made the mistake of ordering one of those from a place called "Digital Liquidiators" I did a search on bizrate or something like that. There were about 900 comments on them and all negative. What happens at a lot of these places is that you order the camera online, then they email you like a day or two later saying that you need to call to complete the order. when you call they use all sorts of high pressure sales tactics to get you to buy their useless warranty and overprices accessories. they sell 256mb cf cards for $299 as an example. if you dont buy anything extra, they will either cancel your order or all of a sudden its out of stock. they were some comments on how people waited up to 2 minth for it to arrive then the chrage on their card was over 100 more. they charged them like 150 for shipping. be careful where you buy.
