ed_eubanks
I have had a Coolpix 885 for a little over a year; generally, I am very pleased with its quality and function. However, I have found that in the "basic" (green box) mode, which my wife prefers, the photos are always underexposed by 1/3 to 1/2 stop. Since digital typically has a similar latitude to that of transparencies, this can have pretty severe results. (For that matter, if I use the more advanced modes I also get underexposed images unless I compensate, but it is easier to set up a semi-permanent compensation in these modes.) I would assume that Nikon would be able to re-calibrate the meter on this camera, but I wonder if anyone knows how a user could do it themselves? Any help is appreciated. david_clark10
Hello Ed, it is not possible for a user to recalibrate the meter themselves as expensive software is needed. It is usually bench tested and adjusted after maunufacturing using special equipment by Nikon. Obviously with such a large number of cameras produced it is to be expected that a couple are slightly out even with Nikons high quality control. I would have thought that recalibration would not be too costly as no parts are required assuming it has not been dropped etc. I assume your monitor, printer and software are all set up correctly. They can often be one of the main causes of poor output. Cheers
