john_spiers
According to the Nikon lens catalogue, G type lenses will work in Program and Shutter-priority modes with lots of older SLR's, including the F4, F801s and F601M. With the F401 series it works in all exposure modes!! However they won't work AT ALL with the 601AF. Just wondered why. What's so different about the 601AF? todd peach seattle, washi
The chart you're looking at is in error for the 601AF. Here's a quote from another forum:
In particular, some bodies were added to the charts, some abbreviations were clarified, and the F601/N6006 was moved from the section indicating complete incompatibility with G lenses metering systems. Previously it was listed as completely incompatible while its manual focus twin F601M/N6006 was listed as compatible in P and S modes. Nikon later issued a correction moving the F601/N6006 AF twin to also be compatible in P and S modes, but seems to have forgotten to update the compatibility charts themselves. This has been corrected.
I have no idea whassup with the 401.
john_spiers
Thanks. I thought it sounded a bit odd.
jimh
The 401 was the first Nikon to set the aperture on the body.
