joshroot
My mother is interested in flower and plant photography (i.e. this months "Smithsonian" magazine). is there a book out there anywhere that would help get her started with some techniques? matthew_smith1
I think the greats include: "Closeups in nature" by John Shaw (now, unf., out of stock) "the complete guide to Close-up & macro photography" "How to photograph flowers" in the how to photograph series. There are a few more I can think of if she wants to focus on wildflowers. Matthew
eric_ung
I also vote for the 'Better Picture Guide to Flower & Garden photography' by Michael Busselle. It contains a lot of pictures with explanation. All the chapters are unrelated and you can read it at your leisure time.
gary_watson
I'd vote for Nadine Blackstock's classic "Photographing Wildflowers." It's clearly written, concise, long on basics, short on equipment shopping lists.Probably among the best intros to flower shooting.
clay_prescott
I would highly recommend 3 more titles. "Photographing Plants and Gardens" by Clive Nichols "Field Guide to Photographing Flowers" by Allen Rokach "How to Photograph Flowers" by Heather Angel All are available in paperback, and your Public Library should be able to get them for you. john_n._wall
I'm going to recommend Kevin Adams, WILDFLOWERS OF THE SOUTHERN APPLACHIANS: HOW TO IDENTIFY AND PHOTOGRAPH THEM (1996). This book obviously emphasizes the flowers of one region, but the discussion of technique is applicable anywhere. There is careful discussion of technique, composition, backgrounds, technical challenges and the like. What is special about this book is the attention to technique for each of over a hundred kinds of flowers. Issues of depth of field and other concerns are treated from the point of view of how to get optimum shots for each kind of flower.
chuck_greene
I second two of the books already mentioned: "Closeups in Nature" by John Shaw, and "Photographing Plants and Gardens" by Clive Nichols both are excellent.
lester_laforce
Nadine Blackstock's name is (as I discovered in trying to find her book through amazon.com) really, Nadine Blacklock
jeff_elmer1
I have read a couple of these books...Craig & Nadine Blacklocks "Photographing Wildflowers" & John Shaws "Close-ups in Nature"......both are excellent books on taking flower pictures. Thanks for the question...now there's a few more books for me to check out.
