briany
The Canon 5200 f/14 reflex lens! (along with the 800 f/3.8 and 2000 f/11) I stumbled upon this the other day and didn't see any mention of this beast in the archives, so I thought I'd post it here for you Canon users' amusement. Ever seen one in person or seen pictures from it? What was it used for?? It's easy to miss the camera in the picture. And at 220 lbs. I'd make sure I had a strong camera strap :-)<br><img src="http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/canon/fdresources/fdlenses/reflex8002000/tv5200cat.jpg" width=513 height=239 border=1><br><a href="http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/canon/fdresources/fdlenses/reflex8002000/cat.htm"> http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/canon/fdresources/fdlenses/reflex8002000/cat.htm </a>

stefan www.randlkofer.co
finally a lens where it is hard to misplace the lens cap!
citizensmith1664875108
But how does it peform with a 2x teleconvertor? :)
alan_krantz
Perhaps the 2x converter won't fit and we don't have to worry about performance !
jim_larson1
So I guess with F14, AF won't work and no one will be talking about front/back focusing with this lens. . . .
emaxxman
Too bad that focal length isn't part of a zoom lens. I really hate walking back and forth to compose my shots. :-)
briany
Thang, perhaps you would prefer Nikon's more modest offering, the 1200-1700mm f/5.6-8 zoom (perhaps with a TC).<br> <img src="http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/zoomsMF/12001700groupviewmdm.jpg" width=274 height=201><br> (The one in the top left, dwarfing the 500 f/4 next to it)<br> <a href="http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/zoomsMF/12001700mm.htm"> http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/zoomsMF/12001700mm.htm </a>

J.W. Wall
Good catch! I visited your source page, and the person who posted the picture also says: <I have a booklet of the Canon mirror lenses dated May 1965. The title explains it all: Canon Mirror lenses, TV-800mm 1:3.8 , TV-2000mm 1:11 and TV-5200mm 1:14. Subtitle is World's Brightest Lens Widest Mobility Longest Focal Distance.> Um, "Widest Mobility"?! Anyway, sounds as though it was a television lens.
basscheffers
Well, the "TV" in the model number may give a clue to its use. Though I am sure many bird photographers wish it came with an EOS mount! ;-) Ever seen the lenses they use to show you the images of a Space Shuttle launch? There's the zoom some people in this thread have been looking for! :)
J.W. Wall
I wasn't sure about the "TV" part, because there's a 35mm camera shown on the lens. Perhaps Canon could comment?
jimvanson
Is this the best lens for my 10D or should I stick with my 28-300 and use teleconverters?
jim_larson1
oh, by all means DON'T get the cheapest lens for your new camera. You should get this lens to maximize your results. It's not THAT much more.
yakim_peled1
Silly me. I always thought that the 1200/5.6 is long, big, heavy and expensive. Well, you never stop learning.....
vesa_perala
"Um, "Widest Mobility"?!" I quess it means to move this lens you need the widestvehicle (of all lenses). Vesa
basscheffers
It could fill a 35mm frame with a person standing 750 feet away. Or how about a 747 at 35000 feet? Yes, this thing is _that_ long!
chris_hawkins
If the ole' theory of an inverse relationship between lens size and ...... ah, never mind.

gil_batzri
Do you think I could rent one? I need to shoot the A's game, and I can't leave the house that day. With a TC I could shoot from 7 miles away, right?
