How to change metering mode?

Recommended Posts

You can't. At least not directly.

Mid and upper level EOS cameras let you select metering modes at will. It's a bit more

confusing on low-end EOS cameras like the 500N.

Most exposure modes (except for the macro icon mode, which usually uses partial)

use evaluative metering by default. If you want to use partial you can do so by

pressing the partial metering button on the back of the camera.

The odd exception is centre-weighted average metering. I don't know about the

500N in particular, but on other cameras of the same type you can't use evaluative

metering in M mode. Instead the camera defaults to centre-weighted average or

switches to Partial if you push the partial metering button.

I have a 500n. The camera is always on evaluative metering. Partial metering (the centre circle of view finder) is ony activated when you press the * button on the back. The only time it uses centre weighted metering is in manual mode.

Hope this helps
