jeff_buckels
What is the difference between a Goerz 24-inch Apo Artar and a Goerz 24-inch Red Dot Artar? Thanks. -jb

david_bradley1
the red dot is coated
There are more differences than just this. See the lens information pages at http://www.largeformatphotography.info.
jason_greenberg_motamedi
It is said that the design was slightly tweaked, optomized for 1:10 instead of 1:1, but there isn't really any evidence for this, and may well be just legend.
peter_mcdonough
Hi Jeff, The red dot is a coated, newer lens. The plain apo may or may not be coated. Most of them started out uncoated and were later coated. Both are optimized for 1:1 unless they were mounted in a shutter. When mounting, many owners had them re-optimized for 1:15, or so. I had an apo that was coated before mounting and re-optimized for 1:18. It was a very sharp lens and had beautiful tonal characteristics. Best of luck, Jeff. c_p_goerz
Hey there, ALL Non red dot Artars are set to 1:1 while the Reds are set at the factory for all kinds of ratios, it depended on focal length. The 24" is set to 1:5.1 with an optimum F stop of 22 and will 'officially' cover 20.4" at infinity. CP Goerz.
