$10,000 and No Lens?

Recommended Posts

Thanks James-

This camera is [prob] well worth $10,000, and 5.9K is a bargain! New, they run/ran at $20,000

This is the only non-scanning back I would remotely consider, the output is AMAZING...

Still at $10,000, you would think the additional $500-1,000 for the lens could have been thrown in...

This is the only non-scanning back I would remotely

consider, the output is AMAZING...

Not sure what you

mean. It *is* a scanning-back (well to be pedantic it's a scanning

camera). It's strictly for subjects that don't move.

Incidentally, I'm not sure 6000 USD is that much of a bargain for

it. The fact it may have cost 20,000 USD once is irrelevant. Brand

new current model Betterlight scan-backs can be had for around

that amount and they will fix on cameras that provide fuller

movements than anything you can attach to this Leica (pretty

important for the type of photography where you would use a

scanning back). Don't forget also that the Leica's software will be

pretty old. I doubt whether the custom version of Silverfast used

will be upgradeable to work with OS X. Okay, you could dedicate

an older Mac to this camera but it just adds to the clunkiness of

buying a 'no longer supported' solution. It would be a real

bargain at around 2-3000 USD (might be tempted myself).
