antoine_morin
The diaphragm blades of my 35mm AF-D F/2 look "wet", likely because of oil or lubricant. The lense was purchased used, is out of warranty, but is very dear to me. Can someone recommend a shop, ideally in Ottawa, to have it cleaned and repaired? And for those of you who have benn there before me, was it a recurring problem?
mskovacs
This is an extremely common problem with this lens. So common, that you might want to give Nikon a call to see if its covered under warranty, whether expired or not.
The only place I can recommend is Winball Camera in Toronto. The website seems to be down. Raymond Fung is a former big shot from Nikon Hong Kong and really knows his stuff.
jason michael
Another reputable Toronto shop is Kominek Camera http://www.kominek.com/ I agree that contacting Nikon might result in a free repair or replacement. Try and get in touch with the manager of repairs at Mississauga Nikon.
mskovacs
Kominek was recommended to me for my Rolleiflex's CLA back when I lived in Vancouver. Haven't tried them yet but I have an 80-200/4.5 that I want overhauled (zoom loose) so it'll be one of the above.
dym_1
Antoine, just send it directly to Nikon Canada in Mississauga. I had a lens that I dropped and I took it to a Nikon dealer to get it fixed. They told me that they had to send it out and said that it would take 4-6 weeks. I called Nikon Canada Service myself and they told me I could send it directly to them. The lens was fixed and it was returned to me in 2 weeks. See link for address. http://www.nikon.ca/corporate/default.asp
rick_gray
Antoine, I reside in Ottawa as well and it won't happen here. As already mentioned,Raymond Fong(www.winballcamera.com) or Nikon Canada in Mississauga are your two best options. Good luck! Rick Gray
antoine_morin
Taking the advice provided here, I sent my lense to Winball Camera Repairs. They did a good job, swiftly, for a reasonable price ($72CAN, taxes and return shipping included). I shall update this thread if the problem resurfaces. Thanks to all who responded. antoine_morin
Sadly, within 18 months, oil reappeared on the blades. I'll use the lens only wide open until the Sigma 30 f/1.4 is out. Then I'll decide whether I get the lens fixed by Nikon Canada or simply replace it by the Sigma.
