thomas_t
The original snap-on caps for my late model summicron are rather frustrating (they keep coming off at the most inopportune times or in my bag), has anyone tried any PUSH-ON caps (similar to the original push-on caps that came with the DR and the rigid summicron)? I can get some generic ones, but need to know the correct size. In order to fit a 39 filter size snuggly, should I get a PUSH-ON that is size 40 or size 41? If you've tried this, I would appreciate your comments. Thanks in advance :-)
lee_shively
The Leica cap that came on my used 50mm Summicron (it may not be original) is marked 14268 and is 42mm in diameter. It also fits the 90mm Elmar-C.
al_kaplan1
42mm will fit a whole range of Leitz/Leica lenses, pretty much all the ones than use 39mm filters and have detacheable hoods. It will also fit a variety of Leica screw mount Canon lenses that take 40mm filters.
tuan_hoang1
Hi Tom, I also had same problem as you, then I found that if you just pull a build in hood out just a little bit, you can snap its cap in easily. My cap never falls out with this method. Take care. Tuan
andrew n.bra hrefhttp
A 42mm ID cap is what you are looking for. These caps are easy to get cheap (or even free!) as they are a popular size used to cover binocular eye-pieces. Go to any telescope or binoculars store and ask to dig around in their "spare caps" box. Take you lens with you and try them out until you get one which fits the best. The cap you will get is plastic, but so what. You can buy @ 20 of them for the price of a proper Leica cap - and unlike the Solms item you won't get a heart attack when you lose one!
