greg_mason
there is an interesting e-bay auction #2957930880 for a black chrome wetzler 50th anniversary leica M4. from the buyer profile, money order only and three day bid, it looks like some one might get taken. any thoughts on the camera though, and his information? crackers_.
Where's Sheldon? This scam's just like the one he spotted. He found the real, same camera at Gandy's. No way a new seller is walking the streets with this.
djl251
I sent the following email to the seller: "Hello: If you don't mind how long have you owned thiscamera and how much have you used it. Can you tellme what lenses you have used it with and if themeter works? I appreciate your information. It'snot often that such a nice example comes along. Donald" To which the seller replied: "Good day! This peace was never used. Condition is like new.Meter is working properly. Thank you." Hum- Thought provoking... charles barcellona www.bl
6:00AM EST I asked the seller if the meter worked, if there was any corrosion on the metal shutter blades, and if the LEDs light up properly. His reponse was: No, all is condition perfect.
skip_williams
Charles, those were neat questions, as he obviously didn't look at the camera. Something smells funny, and I'd stay away. Even though the camera looks pristine, I worry about the 3-day and the MO restriction. Those don't sound right also. And a camera in that good a condition should bring between $1500 and $2500, depending on the buyer.
stephen_w.
I had the chance to buy a new one in 1977 at my local dealer for $1000. Poor rate of return even if I didn't intend to use it, which is false. I would've done better with the 1967 Alfa Spider boat tail for $2000 available at the same time (assuming that I didn't wreck it). Poor rate of return in the future as well, stay away. john falkenstine
Actually, being an ex-mechanic, the camera was the better deal. Alfa Spider: Bad engine, no ground clearance, structural integrity of damp cardboard.
tod_hart
There's a pdf of a past LHSA issue 34 #3 at this link. It includes photographs by Jim Lagar of a 50 Jahre M4 which has serial number 1413150. I can't quite clearly make out the last two digits of the offered camera, but the first ones are 14131xx, and the last two easily could be a "50". sk_arts
If you ever question an auction, ask the seller something which is completely bogus. I was going to ask this seller before i found out the auction had ended: "Can you please tell me if this is a type A or type P mount socket? As i am sure you know, the type P is far, far more sturdy!" By saying that one choice is more desireable than the other, he will likely say "Oh yeah, it's deff a P-socket... wouldn't want to go with an A!" You and I both know this is complete crap, but the seller wouldn't suspect a thing!
cmphoto1
Funny! I didn't even know that the 4 had a meter. Or metal shutter blades! And which is better? P or A mount? LOL chad
tod_hart
This is better than Unsolved Mysteries. Notice the seller is suddenly "Not a registered user" this morning?
