melis03
I really know nothing about photography just that I was looking for a really cheap telephoto to try out an older DSLR with. I have a canon 300d and I just bought this https://www.ebay.com/itm/387057940338 lens thinking/hoping it would work with this camera, can I still use it? It is a film camera and a digital camera lens, but that is irrelevant to your concerns. 16 minutes ago, melis03 said: ens thinking/hoping it would work with this camera [Canon 300D] can I still use it? Probably not. The item listed as sold on that link is described - Sigma Zoom 1:4.5 - 6.7 DL 100-300mm Φ55mm. Importantly the "mount" description is "Sigma". This means that the lens connects to a Sigma Camera, not a Canon Camera. For the 300D you need a lens which has a mount either "Canon EF" or "Canon EF-S" WW
Niels - NHSN
The rear cap says Canon AF, so you’ll probably be OK. As long as the mount is correct, it doesn’t matter (much) if the lens was designed in the film or digital era. 1 Niels

I didn't look at any of the photographs, just read the description, my error. melis03 - the easy way to find out is to try: the lens will either mount easily of your camera or it will not, so just try and see. Ken Katz
The lens looks like a Canon EF mount lens (from the image of the lens mount). It does not matter if it was originally sold during the film era or when digital cameras became popular, it should fit a 300D. That said, some early Sigma lenses had compatibility problems with certain Canon bodies (film and digital), but if it mounts OK, the AF works, and the aperture mechanism operates, then you should be OK. John Seaman
8 hours ago, Ken Katz said: That said, some early Sigma lenses had compatibility problems Sigma "reverse engineered" their Canon AF lenses so that they worked with the film camera bodies available at the time. Unfortunately at some point Canon made changes to their digital bodies which made the older Sigma lenses incompatible. Specifically, they worked at full aperture, but stopping down resulted in an error message. Some users had their lenses re-chipped by Sigma but most didn't. The early D30 and D60 bodies were OK, but the 10D and later bodies, including, I think, the D300, were affected by the issue. So you may find it's OK, but to be safe, look for a Canon lens.
