douglas_mcneill
I'm interested in getting my first rectangular, graduated ND filterfor landscape work, but I want to make sure that what I buy will becompatible with my new Nikkor 18-35 ED. I'm interested in using aCokin P holder mounted on the 77 mm adapter ring. I know that I couldalways hand hold, but I believe that this setup SHOULD allow use of theSingh-Rays that I've been eyeing online at B&H. I suspect that I'llneed to cut off all but the inside slots on the P holder, but willthat be enough to eliminate vignetting at 18mm? I know the Leefilters are wider, but I'd like to slowly build a set of the morestandard P size filters. Any experience with P size filter systems onthis lens? Thanks. mbeebee
Hi Douglas, I use the Nikon 18-35 with Singh-Ray ND Grads in a Cokin P holder with all but the inside slots cut off--just like you describe. I haven't experienced any vignetting at 18mm. Martin
mark_jordan3
Hi Doug, I made this exact modification...after reading about it from John Shaw for use with my 17-35. I have had no vignetting problems. The holders are pretty cheap to replace in the event it gets damaged or you want a separate (complete) holder available for use with other lenses. anth
Yes. I use the 18-35 on an F80 with a Singh-Ray in a Cokin P holder with the outer slots cut off. It works fine, provided you take any filters (round normal type) off the lens prior to attaching the cokin adaptor ring. Just remember to stop the lens down at least two stops at 18 and you can make some beautiful shots. Get the plastic ready and head for B&H. Cheers.
