Question about 90mm Tele-Elmarit 2.8

If a tele-elmarit has clear (no etching)lens now, having been

normally used for however many years, is there a chance of etching

occuring in the future? Thanks for all responses. Ted

IMHO if the lens is clear after this many years, it should remain so. I feel a lot depends on the environment the lens is used and stored in. If you are in a humid area, check the lens periodically (years).

Mine's from 74/75 and when I bought it in 98 it was clear. It is now etched, but takes sharp photos. As i don't know how it's caused, I don't know how to prevent it.

Shine a penlight from the *rear* and observe the inside of the front element from the front at an angle. I've seen a lot of these lenses where the trouble isn't the rear element but the inside of the front. However that's an easy DIY though I'm sure the cost of the front element isn't cheap.
