Do you mean to just lock it in the center and not let it move? Then yes, you can hold the 'L' (lock) button on the back and lock the focus area by pressing any direction on the direction pad at the same time. It'll say "lock" above the focus area display on the top LCD panel.

 

Also, you probably want to turn off "dynamic AF" by pushing the AF area mode button (looks like [+]) and turning the rear dial until the 'plus' signs go away from the top LCD panel.
