shotz
I purchased an old, used Technika III and I am trying to restore it to a fully functional rangefinder camera. When purchased, the semi- silvered mirror and the front surface mirror were cloudy. When I celaned them the silver came off. I replaced the two bits of glass and the rangefinder is OK but I don't know how to adjust it. The camera came with an old Xenar 150mm and the appropriate cam. I switched out the lens for a newer, coated 150mm Xenar and filed a new notch for 'Infinity'. From this point on I am stuck. The rangefinder seems to work but it is grossly out of adjustment. Should I be able to adjust this so the rangefinder works with the new 150mm Xenar and the old cam? The new 150mm came with a cam for the Technika IV and that's not right either. Is this info published anyplace? Thanks in advance- Peter
jean-louis llech
The only page I've ever seen about the rangefinder adjustment is <a href="http://www.largeformatphotography.info/linhof/technika-23.html#anchor573669">here</a><br> <br> Then access to the bottom of page at "Rangefinder Alignment"<br> <br> Otherwise, try to contact Marflex, who is the official Linhof support in the USA.<br> <br> Hope this helps,<br> <br> Regards<br> JLL
ole_tjugen
The cams for Technika III were individually matched to each camera body / lens combination. The serial number of both lens and camera are stamped on the cams. The cams from Technika IV are different, and need only be matched to the lens. Linhof no longer supply blank cames for T. III's, nor do they calibrate those cams. - Just substituting for Bob S., I'm sure you can find all this in the archives.
thomas_vaehrmann
Peter, if you study the mechanic of the rangefinder, you can perhaps adjust it. Start with your old Xenar and the appropriate cam. Focus on a far distant object=infinity, then check the nearer distances. If you put the two cams together you may watch a different curve. That cams had to be adjusted to each lens because the abs. focal length of the older lenses varied due to production tollerances. I've a Technika III with a cam for 135mm. Even if i set my different 135-lenses right to infinity the cam wouldn't work exactly for all of them. Look on the small side of the cam that's running along the little roll under the draw and you may watch blank brass from adjusting the cam to fit the lens. You should be glad if you get the old Xenar coupled again. Then you may try to cut a cam for the newer fitting Technika III. Perhaps the propriate cam helps to do this. james_driscoll2
<i>The cams from Technika IV are different, and need only be matched to the lens</i> <p>Ole, your on the right track...but the IV also has to have the lens and body matched to the cam. It is the Technika V and later, that standardized cams, so only the lens has to be matched. <p>The only guy I faintly know who is grinding cams for Tech III's, is Fred Pickers old assistant/helper/shop guy-I am not sure what he was...but he has a website where he does LF mods. You might have to search around the net, but he does have a website. He specifically states he "grinds cams for Older Linhof Technica Model III's" on his site.
