wgpinc
My Canon EOS RP does not focus as well as I think it would. I get a lot of unsharp pictures that aren't quite in focus. Is that a problem others have experienced with the RP. Should sending it in to Canon fix the problem and sharpen up the focus?
Ken Katz
You asked this question almost a year ago: I still recommended that you attach some images showing the problem.
wgpinc
Thanks for the troll reminder Ken Katz. I'm old enough to have forgotten what I posted a year ago. Your recommendation is probably spot on but isn't very helpful. Since I changed Mac computers this year I'm having trouble finding some things I took for granted on my old iMac 27".
Ken Katz
I don't remember what I had for lunch yesterday. Without images, a summary of how the photo was taken, and basic shooting information (aperture/shutter speed, lens, lens adaptor, AF mode, etc.), I don't think there is much anyone can answer. paddler4
Lunch? Did I have lunch? hard to recall. But really, a simple comment that you aren't getting good focus provides no information that anyone can use to give you a meaningful answer to your question. AF is quite complicated, and how you use it and the circumstances in which you use it can determine whether you achieve focus even with a camera that is functioning perfectly. For example, AF will often be fooled if there is another high-contrast line near what you want to focus on. Even cameras that have AI-based functions to try to offset that--for example, a function that tries to find faces--can fail under some circumstances. So, some images, along with a description of how you had the AF set and how you used it is what's needed. For example, did you use a single small focus point? Or a single point with assist from adjacent points? Or a larger focusing area? Single shot or servo? Etc. 1
wgpinc
I really just wanted to hear from some RP users who may have had similar problems. I have a lot of experience from at least 40 years ago the I got my first M3 Leica on and I've heard most all of the theories being pontificated here many times. Basic settings on the RP with the EOS 24-70 adapted with the EOS to R adapter. Indoors and outdoors. Also the EOS 70-200mm 4.0 adapted to the R. Missed focus that should have grabbed focus without a problem. I should send the RP to Canon to have tested.

No one was "pontificating". And they are also not theories. We were explaining the factors that determine whether the camera, which after all is just blindly following an algorithm without knowing what you want, will achieve focus. 2 hours ago, wgpinc said: I really just wanted to hear from some RP users who may have had similar problems. without your answers to our pontification, I wouldn't even know what similar problems are.
