AFS or AFS G!

The 24-85 Nikon 'G' lens is a bit slower (f3.5 vs v2.6) and in a dim area, autofocusing may slow down a little with less light.

In bright sunlight, with a subject that has good contrast, the Nikon lens should focus faster. (It would be a toss up if your subject had, for example, a white t-shirt and nothing 'good' to focus on.)

"Is the focus speed on the AFSG as good as an AFS lens? (mounted on a F100)Is the focus speed any better than a AFD lens? "<p>

The G feature does not impact focus speed. In general, the more expensive the AFS lens, the faster it focuses. 24-85 3.5-4.5G AFS is the cheapest AFS lens yet released by Nikon, so it focuses at a relatively leisurely rate for a AFS lens. That being said, it still focuses faster than Tokina's 28-70.

Carl,Ken Rockwells site whilst interesting has not had a bad word on any product since he advertises.I bought mine here**$$** etc.

I will stick with the ,not long enough,Tokina zoom untill something better comes along with a bit more reach,85MM,& is lighter.

Thanks to everyone for your input.

Your choice Melvin, but I don't agree with your remark that he adverstises just

because he shows where products can be purchased for less money, much as many

on this forum do. I personally shop at B&H, would you say that I'm advertising? If you

don't think that he has said anything except good things, then obviously you've not

read all that is on his site. BTW, when folks buy from Adorama through Photo.net, did

you know that Photo.net benefits? It doesn't cost the buyer a cent, but it does help

Photo.net. Adorama is the same place that Ken uses, or is that too much crass

commercialism? My wife has a similar arrangement with Amazon.com, when

purchases are made through her web site.

In conclusion, it's probably best that you go where no advertising exists, and pay

their prices.
