smiffy_smiffy
Our circa 1979 OM2 MD has a bit of 'fluff' showing across the base of the v/finder : if the focusing screen is removed would I be able to easily clean it out?

John Seaman
Olympus used foam around the prisms to preven light leaks in OM cameras, like other foam seals it deteriorates to a tarry mess over time. Eventually it affects the silvering and is visible as a dark smudge in the finder, it's a common problem. I've never tried to deal with it but it appears that opening up the camera and cleaning the prism is needed, even swapping out the prism from another cheaper or beoken OM, Unfortunalely it seems inlikely that you will be able to do anything via the removed focusing screen. smiffy_smiffy
Many thanks John, had a feeling that might be the case but was worth asking... it's not too bad so I will probably just try to ignore it !! Sanford
I had a Nikon (FM or FE) that had the foam deteriorate where the mirror hits on the upswing. Removed it completely and never replaced it. Worked fine after that a far as I could tell.

Easy to replace, I use a strip of sticky back black felt.
