morey_kitzman
I just purchased a new Linhof Reflex Viewer and the image quality is significantly inferior to direct viewing on the ground glass. It is very difficult to focus the image. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to improve the quality or is this just the nature of the beast. Would Fresnel make a difference over ground glass? Thanks.
john_cook1
A fresnel is necessary, in my experience, to be able to see the corners with a reflex viewer. It will make all the difference.
William D. Lester
In my opinion the image will be decidedly inferior to viewing directly on the ground glass even with the fresnel. It's less convenient also. Mine came the the camera as part of the package but it's not something that I would pay a lot of money for. William D. michael_mcblane
Morey: When I ordered my reflex viewer, I was told to order a Linhof Super Screen (052522) as well as a Linhof Grid Overlay (052523). They are very sharp and work well. I got them from Midwest Photo Exchange.(www.midwestphoto.com) Hope this helps.
al_seyle3
You don't say what lenses you have, but I have found the combination of a Maxwell gg and fresnel combo ($225) to work well with lenses from 58 to 300 using the refelx viewer for general camera alignment. You'll still need to remove the viewer for fine focus with a loupe though.
morey_kitzman
Thanks for all your input. I considered your input purchased the Linhof Fresnel (John convinced me, thanks). Anyway my first impression is that it works great. The image are uniform and bright, real bright and it is very easy to focus the image. I focused with the reflex viewer and than check focused without the Fresnel and reflex viewer and the focus was identical. I took a several shots and will see how the they look tomorrow. At this point I must concur with John. Cheers.
