leicamshooter
I know this hood is a 42mm clamp-on type hood. Does anyone know how it comapares to the 35mm Summicron rectangular plastic hood in terms of size (if you can measure them even better). Is the summicron hood more compact, or are they the same. The Skopar hood is metal and can also be use on the 35mm skopar lens as well as on the 50mm 2.5 lens. I was hoping to use the Skopar hood on a tabbed 50mm Summicron. I think I rectangular hood might offer more protection against flare versus a circular hood Thank you for your help in advance. It's hard to get a look at these hoods in Alaska, so I'm hoping some of you may be using them.<div></div>
skip_williams
Gonzolo, Sorry I haven't responded to your private email regarding this issue, but here's the answer: The CV 50/2.5 hood is not a clamp on. It screws into an outside thread on the 50/2.5 Skopar lens and has a set screw so that you can rotate it to be square to the 35mm frame. So it can't be used on a Leica lens like the 50/2 (I don't have a Summicron, but I don't think that it has the requisite outside threads.) The Summicron requires a snap-on hood. diego_k.
By the way ,adn since I dont find any info on this lens, how good is it? I have to send my DR summcron for a cleanup, and will probably need to go for a trip in the meanwhile, is this a good alternative?
cameron_sawyer
The rubber Leica hood delivered with the 35 'cron is the nicest lens hood I have ever used. It is firm enough to absorb shocks but soft enough not to scratch other stuff in your camera bag. I don't know why you would want a metal hood if the rubber one will fit.
