nick_bryans3
Picked up the M6 after a days shooting and noticed that the screw which attaches the plastic, hinged end of the wind on lever has gone. I obviously need a new screw, but I'm wondering if this a common problem, seems like a simple screw would be prone to work it's way loose after a while, and for such a well engineered product that seems a bit crude. Is it really that simple, just put a new screw, and wait to lose that one too ?
kajabbi
I have used my M^'s for a long time without having the problem you describe. If you have lost the screw, call Leica and the parts department will send you a new one. To be on the safe side(and your own piece of mind) put a drop of "Locktite" on the screw before replacing. That will solve your problem. There is always a screw loose somewhere that can be corrected that way.
sait_akkirman
A few years back, I read in a local photo monthly an article by our most well known sports photographer, in which he complained about loosing the same screw on his M6. He wasn't very impressed either.
john_collier2
Easy with the loctite! On very small screws, using loctite is more like welding. A touch of linseed oil will provide all the adhension you need. Do you travel by air much? The high frequency vibrations encountered on airplanes and helicopters is perfect for loosening camera screws -- internal ones too. It is important to pad you gear carefully when traveling by air. cameron_sawyer
Yep, all you Leica photogs keep your Loctite handy. Not very impressive engineering. Wouldn't happen on any "F" series Nikon, and probably not even on a Bessa.
jay_.
Well I just spent an hour taking off the left side top plate of a Nikon F to tighten the strap-lug retaining screw.
lee_shively
And I regularly had to tighten the bayonet mounts on three Nikon F2's and one FTn. EVERYTHING loosens with use.
