neil_swanson
I'm wondering if anyone has had recent contact with DAG. About two and a half months ago (2/15) I sent my M4 to him for a rangefinder check. Any lens, 35, 50 24 etc that focused to .7 would uncouple from the rangefinder after 1 meter. He has worked on it before to modify it to accept an M-motor/rapidwinder etc and that also took 2 months so the length of time it has been gone isn't a surprise. What is bugging me is I've now sent an e-mail a week for 2 weeks, this week will be number 3 and I've gotten no response at all. I'm asking only for an update or news on the repair. I moved last month and I notified him of my new mail address and he responded right away with a question about the new address so he does respond, sometimes. But now nothing. I'm ready to just ask him to return it unrepaired and I'll just get it done somewhere else. I understand being busy but to flat out ignore my questions just ain't right. I haven't just phoned as I do expect he is really busy. Anyone know why?
leica_phil
Call him. I just talked to him last week. His phone was busy all morning (off the hook or plugged into the fax?). By the way, he did a great R cam and CLA of my old 50 'cron. Remember, if you send it to Sherry, it'll come back full of black gook!
bong
What do you mean by "it'll come back full of black gook?" I sent my DS M3 to Sherry and I have never hesitated recommending her services since. Did you have a camera ruined when you sent it to her?
Sanford
It means she seals the top with black goop. I don't know all the pros & cons but I don't think getting a hair or dust in the viewfinder will ever be a concern for me.
henry_ting2
That black stuff you guys talk about is wax. It seals the top plate against the chassis and Sherry is the only person that does it. It essentially eliminated all the concerns of dusts or debris getting into your viewfinder. Also, down the road if you ever need service again, it allows easy removal of the top plate without binding. I like it and highly recommends it. john15
Sherry is also interesting and fun to talk with. She has a s-list full of M6 serial numbers that she claims are "losers". Call her and see if your M is one of them.
angus_ngtg
He worked on my 21mm SA and I had it back in a week and a half. If he's not responding to e-mail call him. Tom
tony_rocha
He's still there. Just got an email from Don yesterday. Your experience is most unusual for Don as I've always found him to be most helpful and quick to responding to all my enquiries.
tommy_baker
Don is a total PRO. His workmanship is exceptional (from my cameras he has worked on), he has parts that very, very few other leica technicians have and his price is fair and reasonable. I asked him to turn around 2 cameras within a week, but gave him advance notification of my urgent request and he delivered on time as promised.
