Uri,

Can you provide a price range? There are very good third party flashes that range from approx. $85 through $300. But if you are at the high end of this range, there is no reason to get a 3rd party flash.

At about $180, the Sigma EF-500 is a very good choice.

At about $100, check out the Metz 36 AF-3.

Sunpak & Vivitar also offer excellent choices below $100.

Also, how much automation do you need? That, and the price range, will be the deciding factor.

Hi All

Thanks.

I believe this is heading elsewhere than I intended.

What I was looking for is insight and some knowledge of flash equipment, trade offs, features, speca etc.

Once I gain this I will be a better position to use UR inputs.

Humayun was asking about automation - I don't know what automation

levels and capabilities are there.

Regards and Thanks Uri

ah okay - i would then suggest that you read:

I don't know of a nikon site, but many of the things discussed - like ttl and e-ttl apply to both systems... its a good place to start as it explains what many of these features are. Another thing i can really recommend is reading john shaw's closeups in nature - his section on flash photography in it is excellent and applicable to non-nature subjects.
