lwg
I have searched for the exact film dimensions so I could answer this myself, but I couldn't find them. In the other post on 8x10 film going away freestyle was mentioned to have 8x10 outdated Astia. I was wondering if this can be cut down into 4 4x5 sheets, or would you only get 2 or 3 sheets out of it? So what are the exact dimensions on 8x10 and 4x5 film. Either way I think I will get some, as the price is nice, but if I could get 4x5 sheets for $.23 it would be even better. Thanks, Larry
keith_pitman
I have cut 8x10 film to 4x10 and can tell you it isn't easy to get the correct dimension. Obviously, it's done in the dark so you need to secure a rule to your cutting board in exactly the right place, otherwise half the film will be too large to fit in the holder, and the other half will be too small. To do this you'll need to test the set up in the light and fine tune it. Also, you'll need clip one corner of the newly cut film to replicate the notches that are only on one corner of the original piece. Generally, I would recommend against cutting your own as not worth the hassle.
jason_greenberg_motamedi
The ANSI size for 4x5 film is here: http://www.geocities.com/thombell/filmsheet.html I regularly cut 8x10 film down to 5x7: it is a hassel but can be done. There are lots of posts about cutting film down, but the take home point is to buy a good cutter (like a rototrim).

Photowarehouses film is about 40% cheaper-))
