andrei1
Hi, all I was looking for a new tripod because I do not like the one I have. I have Vidpro TT-2000 (it has a plastic head). I like to shoot pictures vertically, but when I tilt the camera on the side, I cannot keep it stable because the plastic bends. So, it takes me several attempts to set the angle I want (It is very annoying!!!!). I was looking for other options available and found Bogen 486RC2 Compact Ball Head, but I could not make my mind on legs to use. I narrowed my options down to Bogen 3001BD Deluxe, 3001BPRO, and 190BWB Tracker. Which one would you suggest? What is the difference between 3001s? What are the other options you think are better than these ones for the same price range? My equipment is Canon 7E +BP, Canon 28-70, Speedlite 550ex. I will appreciate any information. john_trent
I would at least consider the 3021N legs. Almost a pound heavier and 2" longer folded length, but it goes 5" lower in minimum height and over a foot taller. It's amazing how often that extra reach comes in handy (and I'm only 5'5"). Also, if you ever move to, or add, medium format, the 3021 legs will be fully up to the task.
andrei1
I have decided to go with Bogen 488RC4 head instead of 486RC2 one because it has levels. What do you think about this?Thank you
John Crowe
I am unfamiliar with Bogen's current line-up. I have the international Manfrotto equivalent and love it. Definitely go for the levels. Check to see if the levels still work in vertical format though, because the horizon one will not unless they have doubled it up with a perpendicular one. I have never used a ball head but go for the quick release plate if its available - very handy!
john_trent
Like Mr. Crowe, I don't use ball heads, but I do find the levels on the 3047 head to be useful. I don't know if your camera has this available, but changing to a focusing screen with vertical and horizontal grid lines is another good aid to keeping things level.
