Mark Keefer Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 (edited) Happy Thursday, August 3, 2023, to all Canon Shooters and Photography enthusiasts. Drum roll please. I know this is the event you have been waiting for all week! Once again it is time for this week's Canon Photo Thursday. 😁 I hope everyone is enjoying summer 🌞 and staying cool. 😎 It has been a crazy hot summer. Stay hydrated. 🧋 I am looking forward to seeing what you 🫵, our Canon photographers have this week. Let's inspire each other and possibly inspire future generations. This is your chance to share your epic, fun, cool, and/or interesting photo with everyone here on PN. Show us your vision, your style, your projects, your travels, adventures, photo missions or just something you shot that captured your fancy. You all know the drill, post one, two, three, or more photos shot from your Canon EOS Camera (SLR or DSLR or Mirrorless. Was your camera made by Canon? If so, post your shots). All are welcome to participate. Late postings are welcome. If you miss Thursday, feel free to add to the thread another day. Looking forward to seeing your shots. Pick up the camera and shoot something. Even if you didn't get out this week, you know you have some blast from the past stashed in your archives. We have a lot of regulars here reading. Jump in and post. Show us your shots. I know with the season everyone can get very busy. I would like to thank everyone who has been sharing in Canon Photo Thursday. It means a lot, making starting this thread every week worth wild. Thank you for your support. As always, I truly appreciate the support of our Canon friends and shooters. It's nice not to be left hanging. Thank you, everyone who has been participating. Canon 5D MK IV - These images are from Sunday along the central California Coast. The first reminds me of the Alfred Hitchcock Movie, The Birds, but this is The Pelicans. I am including two landscape images of the Highway 1 Bixby Bridge both taken with the Canon 17-40mm f/4 L. But one image is a single 17mm shot and one is a composite merge of 14 images taken at 38mm merged into one image. The later image I did post earlier this week in the Landscape forum and went into some detail on how I did it if anyone cares to look learn more. This technique demonstrates you don't need a wide-angle lens to do landscape photography. And the benefit is you don't get the lens distortion of a wide-angle lens. Hope you enjoy and are inspired. Thanks for participating. Edited August 3, 2023 by Mark Keefer 6 1 Cheers, Mark
Adrian K Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 I'll have to look up that composite in the forum, Mark. Thanks for mentioning that. Speaking of the 17-40mm lens, that what I used for these photos of my coffee roast this morning. I used the 80D since it's the only DSLR I have with a flip-screen. I planned on doing this last night so I could have something new to post. I used live view to check the composition, had the 2 second self-timer activated with 5 stop exposure compensation and used a wireless remote control to activate the camera. I got lucky with the photo of me "charging the beans" since I had to estimate when the camera was going to shoot. I held the remote in the same hand as the measuring cup so it was clumsy. The flexible duct resting on the roaster goes to an exhaust fan in the window just out of sight. The last photo shows the graph of the roast and you can see a light outline of the previous roast of that bean which I used to guide this roast. I'm not an expert but I love my coffee! 4 1
mickeysimpson Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Hi Mark. I'm going to look at your composite picture process. That's something that I've wanted to try for a long time. Thanks! Mick 1
mickeysimpson Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Holy smokes ajkocu! Is that really a coffee maker or have you just been transported to the starship Enterprise to manage their Warp Core? Better check those di-lithium crystals out while you're grinding that stuff. Mick 4
mickeysimpson Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 I finally got the chance to get out for a very short photo shoot. My wife, Karen, took me to the Leonard J. Buck gardens in Far Hills, New Jersey. I snapped a few with my 5DMIII but most of my shots were with my trusty old Canon T70 loaded with a roll of Kodak ColorPlus 200 and sporting a FD 35-105mm f/3.5 Macro lens. I still have to send that out to get it processed and remain hopeful that I'll have a couple of decent shots. I think that it's been almost 30 years since I used that camera. Holy cow, what an adjustment! So here are 3 of my 5DMIII shots from the Leonard J. Buck gardens. 6 1

Mick Thanks, Mick. It does sort of look like the Enterprise I guess! I had to think the process through before starting so I wouldn't mess up the roast or miss a shot. I deleted some photos because the focusing was off. I was using back button focusing with live view and I didn't know how to verify what it was focusing on. At least I got the important shots! Bottoms up to you! I'll check for crystals first!
ericphelps Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 Mark, it just could be me but the second photo of the Bixby Bridge looks like it's falling to the right? 1 Why do I say things...
Mark Keefer Posted August 4, 2023 Author Posted August 4, 2023 The second photo could have some tilt of the camera and it does have 17mm lens distortion. I probably could do some post editing correction. 1 Cheers, Mark
