beginner question

Nikolaos, you are indeed asking a very basic question, but also a very good question. We have all asked similar questions at one time or another. The other responders are correct. More information about what type of camera, what type of film (sheet film or roll film) and what kind of film holder is necessary. With the traditional double holders the holder is inserted under the groundglass. Some roll film backs, like the Calumet backs, Polaroid backs, and grafmatic holders can be used either way if your camera has a Graflok back where the groundglass is removable. Some roll film backs only work be removing the Graflok back.

A good basic book like Using the View Camera and/or some coaching with an experienced large format photographer would help you greatly at this stage. Keep asking questions!!!

Nikolaos,

With an 8x10 and an 8x10 back the filmholders fit under the groundglass. You do not have to remove it. As far as I know there are no roll holders that fit an 8x10 back. You can get reducing backs but I assume that is not what you are asking.
