Revisited site from my childhood

So this is my great aunts’ former home.

Eunice, Blanche, & Mattie lived there when I was a child, and the youngest of them (Mattie the 13th child of my great grandparents) lived there still when I was in my early 30s. At least one of the 3 was born here, lived here her whole life, and died here. Blanche was a painter, Mattie played piano, and all 3 were teachers.

These photos were taken a few years ago in July 2019. The house, stilll owned by our family, had been vacated after my cousin, who’d inherited it, died and the tenant had to move out. My sister and I were visiting local relatives, went to see the place & found it unlocked so we wandered in, me with my camera.
I know the place had absolutely none of my aunts’ stuff inside - they were of course long gone, but I’ll always cherish these shots in all their imperfection.

The house has changed hands now- I believe owned outside the family for the first time ever? It will get a Historical Landmark plaque at some point if it doesn’t have one already. It’s the house that sits up, in the curve on Lake Wheeler Road, just below Ten Ten, south of Raleigh, North Carolina

Here are two old photos I’ve found in a box of family archive stuff given to me by a relative

first, one of the house- probably taken sometime in the early to mid 1930s

and two of my great aunts, Mattie (L), and Eunice (R).

Both the above photos were shot with my phone. I laid each upon a letter from my great uncle Floyd, who had visited his sisters over a Christmas holiday. The letter is dated 1939.

Here is a hand drawn map of the area, by I believe my great aunt Celestia, who was called “Lessie” by all. This was probably from. About 1960 or possibly ‘59. I found this folded into a small notebook detailing Lessie’s death and wishes for how the property would be divided amongst other family members.

This house,  which we always called The Girls’ house can be seen on this map, listed as “home place”.  Our Grandparents’ place across the road, now owned by myself, my brother, sister, & 2 cousins, is listed as “old home tract”
