DylanEggleston
Hi all, I’m posting today about something curious I have going on with my Vivitar 283 external flash. Everything mounts fine and looks like it works well except I have two connected wires where the battery pack should be placed. It actually hinders putting any batteries into the compartment. I know my camera fairly well but am totally new to the idea of having an external flash for it. I haven’t been able to find anything about the wires and there certainly isn’t a spot for them to be inserted on my camera. Thank you so much for the help in advance! steven_endo
Looks like the previous owner added wiring for an external battery pack. Further, that looks like a vintage Tamiya RC car battery pack connector for a 6-cell (7.2V) nicad pack. rodeo_joe1
Definitely modified by a previous owner! So I hope it didn't cost you much. Which camera do you have? Because some of those Vivitar flashes have a 'trigger voltage' (voltage on the hotshoe pin) that's unsafe for a modern digital camera. There are far better flashes available these days, both used and new from the likes of YongNuo and Godox.
