Film Camera Week for November 4

Recommended Posts

Greetings, all, and welcome to our new thread.  Post all the images you like from any film camera.  I'll start with a few from a roll of Kentmere 100 that I processed and scanned this week.  Camera was a Pentax ZX-5 with 50mm f 2 Takumar A.

Rick, really good results with the Maxxum 28-85.  The 28-85 was my first Maxxum lens (bought it with Maxxum 5000.  I used it through the early 2000's until it began to randomly close to minimum aperture regardless of camera setting.  By then I was using an 8000i. Finally sold it as-is to get a few dollars toward my next lens.  I think the issue with the lens and other first generation Maxxum lenses was that over time the electromagnet that worked with aperture control became weak and was unable to prevent lens from closing down when not necessary.  Luckliy, my 35-105 f 3.5-4.5 from same time is still working properly.

Thanks, Mike. The 28-85mm is my favourite among the Minolta AF lenses of that era, although they are mainly very good performers. It seems that most manufacturers were able to produce pretty good short zooms in the 28-80/85mm range, as I have several go-to lenses of this specification, including the truly great Kyocera 28-85mm f/3.5-4.5 for the Yashica AF SlRs. I seem to recall that you share my liking for the slightly oddball Minolta 100-200mm f/4.5, not the most versatile of lenses but another fine performer.

Been getting some film developed from summer thru fall so have a fair amount of stuff in lately. Here are some color shots from a trip to the remote & sun drenched Grecian island of Astypalaia, back in June. Voigltander R3m and the 40mm f/1.4 lens,  First some stuff on Kodak Ektar 100

And a couple from Cinestill 50D. The 50D seems very "atmospheric" where the Ektar seems so brilliantly "real".

@RicochetriderIndeed I can see the Ektar 100 is full of sunshine while the 50D is a bit moody. Did you get them processed in the lab or by yourself? My experience from 50D is that colors are more muted, and contrast is lower. It is not a bad look, but do need some grading to get to where I wanted.

But to be clear, I was using vanilla 50D (without the Cinestill remjet removal).
