Tony Parsons
I am considering getting a K3 or K3II, mainly for wildlife with 55-300 lens, or Sigma 150-500. Has anyone any advice or experiences with this camera they would care to share, please ? Thanks
AJG
I have been very happy with my 2 K-3 bodies for the last 4 years, but most of my work is in a studio. I chose the K-3 over the K-3 II because I didn't care about built in GPS or pixel shift that the K-3 II has the the original K-3 doesn't, and the K-3 bodies were $100 cheaper at the time. Pentax autofocus isn't considered "best of breed" in speed, but the K-3 is much better compared to earlier Pentax DSLRs. I have never really done serious wildlife photography, but while I am a long time mostly happy Pentax user I don't think that Pentax would be my first choice for this kind of work.
Tony Parsons
Thanks, @AJG - all my other kit is Pentax, and I don't want / can't afford (strike out whichever is inapplicable) to replace it with a whole new setup. Furthermore, at my age, it would probably take me longer than I have left to master a new system. Whatever I decide on, it's bound to be better than a K20D and a Tamron 70-300 lens ! If you have been satisfied with the K 20 you will love the K-3--I had a K 20 some time ago and the jump to a K-5 was a big one in every way, with the K-3 also being a significant upgrade over the K-5.
Tony Parsons
Once again, thank you - all I need to do now is wait for the solicitors to finalise my late uncle's estate !
allancobb
I have the K-3ii and my 55-300/4.5-6.3 PLM WR RE stays attached to it pretty much all the time. Autofocus is adequate to the task, fast and quiet. I have zero complaints.

allancobb
Thank you Tony! I think you'll succeed with the K3ii/55-300mm PLM combo.
