babouphoto
I just took my Mamiya 7ii out of the closet, loaded it with film, pressed the shutter for the first frame and the film advance lever/winder gets stuck there. I think the issue is probably the contacts not telling the camera that it has fired but not sure. Any suggestions? I was going to take pix of my family and I'm stuck (literally and pun intended). Before anyone asks, I did clean the contacts and tried another lens as well. I also removed the film and reloaded it. Total pain!!! Thanks, Olivier

babouphoto
Do you have a second battery to try ? Peter Yes but same model as the current one which I put in today (Duracell). Why? Thanks
babouphoto
Do you have a second battery to try ? Peter Also, I can see the meter working so the battery is working as it should from that end at least. I'll go grab another one in a minute and report back. Thanks! babouphoto
Haha! Thanks Peter. I actually lived in Aberdeen for several years and going to tour the stunning Scottish Highlands next summer which I have not done in 20+ years!!! peter_fowler
Working meter means those connections are good , but I'm not completely convinced that's necessarily enough to operate the shutter . It's simply the easiest and cheapest check .(Scottish heritage :) ) Peter
babouphoto
And for anybody following this thread, the lenses work perfectly as I tried them on another body.
babouphoto
Las update before I send it out for repair: 1. The camera and lenses dry fire perfectly when opening the back and doing so at all speeds including bulb/B. 2. I can see the film spool turning perfectly when dry firing with the back open. 3. The counter resets properly when opening the back. 4. The light meter works well and I put a fresh battery in the camera. This is really strange. It would possibly indicate that the film spool is not recognizing that the camera has fired and that the film should be wound to the next frame. jlineen
Is there a multiple exposure setting on the 7ii that stops film advance- could you have set this accidentally?
babouphoto
Is there a multiple exposure setting on the 7ii that stops film advance- could you have set this accidentally? There is but I'm aware of it. It's my 3rd Mamiya 7. Thanks
peter_fowler
I don't know if this may work , but it was mentioned that possibly pressing the film rewind button might unlock it . Another remark was that there's apparently a couple of magnets that need some minor attention , but I have no idea what or where they are . Good luck , Peter

babouphoto
You know we'll be interested in hearing what they find ! Peter Precision is not sure until they see the camera but they think that it's probably a bad magnet in the film advance mechanism!
peter_fowler
Remember when they used to be called "permanent magnets " ? :) Peter
babouphoto
Remember when they used to be called "permanent magnets " ? :) Peter Haha! So true. I'm on my 3rd Mamiya 7 in 8 years. I wish they had been built like my Leica cameras.
